Your Summer Opportunities for College Visits! -with News from College Consulting Inc.
Here it is Summertime!
You and your family may want to make wise use of summer traveling by visiting college campuses! The main goal of any visit is to determine if the campus is the best fit for you and your aspirations. Underlying this, you will want to gain all possible information to help determine this and to leave a strong and lasting impression on the college representatives with whom you meet.
Before you schedule your visits, take into consideration when your family can make the trip and which colleges can be visited as your travel progresses. The sooner you make your plans the easier it will be to arrange for visits with the admissions department staff. Your goal is to do some groundwork for the college admissions process which awaits you in your senior year!
Just prior to making those admissions staff contacts, consider the advantages of arranging to meet with some or all of the following at each college:
- an admissions representative
- students
- a professor in your intended major
- a coach or sponsor of a group with which you likely will become involved
- a career guidance representative
The admission and career guidance staff can provide answers to detailed inquiries, but the other three groups can play a critical role in revealing aspects of the school that will be essential to the success of your overall college experience. Remember that although you definitely want to take advantage of a formal tour, you also want to freely venture across the campus and into the surrounding non-campus areas to gain a more comprehensive and realistic view. Be sure to schedule the visit when the summer session is active in order to have the opportunity to chat with students at an eatery or a student gathering. Ask them any question and expect honest and revealing responses as they are not in the paid position as staff members are.
Make each visit a positive one, even when the visit removes the school from your list. There are always levels of learning that provide you with increased insight and understanding of your future college life! Be certain to take notes and collect every form of printed information available as some of this will be inspirational to you when you construct your essays and written responses. Enjoy the trips and treasure the time spent with your family!
