AP Courses Change!

Revolution in AP Courses!!

There is some truly revolutionary news that high school students College Consulting Inceverywhere in the US will want to know about. AP courses, offered by secondary schools throughout the United States, are about to change radically!

In February, the College Board announced that AP Biology has been revised with changes to take effect during the 2012-13 academic year. Rather than the former emphasis on covering all biology topics in the broadest sense, emphasis will be on developing the student’s reasoning skills and critical inquiry. Lab work will aid participants in advancing skills for gathering, analyzing and evaluating measurable data, while integrating fundamental concepts.

These significant changes to AP Biology represent the early stages of what will be more comprehensive changes that will alter the general focus of AP course work. Changes in AP German and AP French will take effect later this year. There will follow significant changes in European History, world history, art history, chemistry and physics. Rather than having strict criteria which control and over-regulate the AP classroom, there will be general standards set for each course.

The College Board expects these additional course revisions to be instituted in upcoming academic years with the exams to match these changes to be implemented in a period from 2013 to 2015. Trevor Packer, the vice president for Advance Placement within the College Board has indicated that all of this marks a new direction away from what historically has been its focus on the test more than the courses.

The greatest amount of change revolves around a curriculum whose central emphasis is the student’s ability to use the knowledge being gained in a practical sense. Such a focus necessarily requires a reduction in the extremely broad content coverage that is current in AP courses.

Critical thinking will play center stage in the new curriculum because of the increasingly essential role it plays in all aspects of life today.

Clearly this is a winning situation for education far beyond the high school AP course, as the emphasis on practical problem solving, critical thinking and student-centered learning will spread to other high school courses and to the programs within elementary schools.

Expect an increase in the levels of excitement you see on the faces of young students everywhere!

Make the Ideal Statement!

To separate yourself from the masses in the pool of candidates whose qualifications are similar to yours as you create your law school applications, the wise candidate will devise a uniquely superb and persuasive personal statement, one that is as enthusiastic as it is engaging. You must invest time to create a successful personal statement, an arduous genre that requires multiple drafts.

Alongside your self-confidence and maturity you should display those attractive parts of your personalty and passion in order to demonstrate why you are the best while simultaneously being unique. The admissions committee audience wants to understand your thoughts and viewpoints through the details that you make available. Your goal is to provide them in a manner that is unforgettable.

Because law school interviews are rare, the personal statement that you submit will be the primary source of answers to questions that the readers have. You must persuade them so that they have no doubts about you as they determine that you should be accepted. Your aim is to persuade them to offer you an acceptance.

Both the introduction and conclusion need to be strong with excellent writing, polished ideas and refined structure throughout. Present yourself clearly, simply and intelligently. As you demonstrate that you are intimately familiar with the strengths of the particular law school, simultaneously reveal that those strengths are a means for you to achieve your goals. With all of these things, College Consulting Inc. (847)505-9100 is prepared to assist you in developing a uniquely powerful personal statement that is unforgettable.

There are myriad prompts inside college applications which ask you to reveal some very personal aspect of your identity or experience. Is revealing something intimate about your experience or identity really simple? One of the most basic questions on some college applications is “Tell us about yourself.” It actually is not simple, as high school students are rarely asked to write about their own identity.

So how does an applicant reveal a true self to the admissions committee in an honest and convincing way? Uncovering the genuine and appealing aspects of your character can seem to be a great challenge but there are avenues that help. It will take commitment and time and the College Consulting Coach often advises using a journal, not just of events, but of thoughts and memories, also. Here at College Consulting Inc, we also use our own set of prompts that make this process move more quickly and deeply so that the student has the advantage in these essays.

The prompts revolve around discoveries, passions, successes, failures, relationships and both small and big life events.

Taking a look at some of the questions you may see is just a start. The Common Application presents this, “Evaluate a significant experience, achievement or risk you have taken or an ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.”

Northwestern University asks, “What effect has any voluntary or independent research, reading or study, work in the arts, science project, etc. (outside of school), had on your intellectual and personal growth in recent years? Discuss what influence this involvement has had on your academic goals.”

At College Consulting Inc, we can provide you expert guidance which moves to maximize the advantages you can have by putting you on the path to discover ideal elements of who you are for responses to the real essay prompts you face in your top choice colleges.
